Remodeling a bathroom can be expensive. However, when you are able to reuse the vanity top (marble) as shown here, use a hammered paint on the faucet to give it a new look and build the frame and shelving yourself it can be rewarding to show your craftsmanship skills. We purchased the 12x12 vinyl stick floor tiles from Home Depot and what was nice about that was we could return the tiles we did not use for a credit. Had we chosen to use sheet vinyl it could have been challenging, especially getting around the corners, the cutting, gluing etc. We would have had to hire a flooring specialist to install it which would have added an additional $125.00+ to the budget. Besides if you didn't know better the tiles really look like slate. Of course the subfloor has to be level to begin with and we did put in a new subfloor due to some rotting around the base of the toilet. The toilet is the comfort height model as both my husband and I are tall. We built the vanity to 38 inches in height-no more bending over at the sink. We were able to complete this project for less than $1,300.00.
When you are thinking about a remodeling project keep in mind repurposing what you already have to save on cost. Often times you can find great deals on craigslist.org, check out the Free section or "curb alert" specials to. In the end we were very happy with our project. I have to say it is really nice to have a husband that is super handy.
Good luck with your next project.
